Perhaps Nelson Mandel is a good parallel. He only came to be fit for the task of leading South Africa out of apartheid by refusing to give into resentment. Perhaps that was the case with Joseph, enabling him to listen to God and to others.

previously Joseph seemed to be “daddy’s boy” , arrogant, proud, attention seeking -but also honest in exposing brother’s bad behaviour + dreams (not sure if he could interpret them then?) . But developed / matured through years of rejection, time in prison, hardship years in Egypt & more time to reflect + listen to God – he became much closer to God (a sign we can all develop such a relationship with God even given the garish circumstances – Gods kingdom open to all ?) . He stayed true/ honest – did not lie with boss’s wife+ continued to interpret dreams accurately. He worked hard and gained status as a honest / true man.
